Analysis for the Don River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) – Component 2, Analysis of climate change impacts in the Siversky Donets River Subbasin

The Siversky Donets River sub-basin has been subject to significant developments over recent years. The project reviews already existing activities related to the rational use, protection, rehabilitation of surface and groundwater resources, improvement the ecological status of water bodies, and other water protection measures. Specifically, the assessment of climate change impacts is important in this regard to ensure future sustainability of basin development.

Actual services provided by our staff within the assignment:

Works in the Siversky Donets River subbasin focus on 1. overall analysis of climate change impacts (extreme events, runoff), 2. estimation of changes in the river water balances, taking into account the current hydrological situation and the impact of climate change, and 3. analysis of vulnerability to climate change and identification of priority measures for adaptation. The climate change analysis is carried out in accordance with the EC Guidance document №24 River Basin Management in a Changing Climate, Common Implementation Strategy for the Water Framework Directive. Tasks include:

Task 1: Climate change analysis: models and scenarios
Task 2. Climate change impact assessment
Task 3. Potential for adaptation to climate change in the subbasin
Task 4. Strategic priorities and activities for climate change adaptation in the subbasin
Field visits and stakeholder consultations as well as workshops are carried out as part of the assignment.
