Irrigation Metrics 2021 Scope

Using current non-standardized water data collection methods, tobacco suppliers across PMI’s global supply chain collect water data from farmers and consolidate them in PMI´s Environmental Insights tool. 112 reports/submissions are collected (across 44 tobacco growing areas) annually and then consolidated to better understand the volumes of water required to irrigate the markets where PMI sources. The project intends to streamline these procedures and develop a standardized water data collection methodology.

Actual services provided by our staff within the assignment:

Works include the analysis of water data provided by PMI Leaf Env. team, distinguishing the current methodology used for both metered and estimated water data collection through surveys, followed by the development of guidelines for data collection for surface, drip, manual and sprinkler irrigation based on current practices and an expert understanding of the best approach. Results presentation and training in webinars outlining the new methodology and providing feedback on next steps regarding water efficiency options for surface, sprinkler, and drip irrigated areas.
